Job Title: Cardiovascular Technologist I Profession: CVT Tech Specialty: Procedural Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Various Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year CVT experience in Cath Lab required. EP and Peripheral experience preferred but not required. License: Current License required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Must-Have: Basic knowledge of cardiovascular cath or electrophysiology procedures. Ability to react quickly to emergency patient care situations. Effective communication skills in verbal and written English. Description: The Cardiovascular Technologist I is a professional training to assist during diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures. He/she will assist the physician during procedures and operate specialized equipment safely and efficiently. The Cardiovascular Technologist I is responsible for maintaining sterile technique during procedures and assisting in keeping a safe environment. This role primarily deals with adults from eighteen to sixty-five and geriatric patients over the age of sixty-five. The technologist may participate in the call rotation once adequately oriented and checked off on clinical and operational competencies. Clinical Skills: Will train to assist the physician in performing specific cardiovascular cath and EP procedures. Will train to function in monitoring, scrubbing, or circulating roles. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Works in conjunction with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and cardiologists. Will train to prep and educate the patient for the procedure. Quality and Patient Safety: Verifies patient ID using two patient identifiers. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name. Verifies Written Order and Consent and seeks clarification for any unclear information. Utilizes pre-procedural verification/time-out forms. Understands and complies with site/side marking when indicated. Job Responsibilities: Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and Cath Lab on-call hours as allowed. Handles communications properly and introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting. Transports patients as needed and provides privacy and comfort for patients. Assists with maintenance of departmental records, standards, and performance improvement. Learns how to enter data into the Cath Lab log and verify accuracy and completeness. Completes necessary paperwork and answers departmental phone using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and checks for outdates. Maintains current licenses and certifications. Works as part of a team with other lab staff to achieve the best possible outcomes. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures. Patient Education: Will train to provide patient and family education. Will provide information regarding their procedure, including preparation for future procedures. Will train to provide post-procedural home care instructions as needed.
