We are currently seeking a Board Certified Neurocritical
Care Physician to join our thriving and innovative
Neurocritical Care team as a clinical medical
director in Gainesville, Georgia. This role would
focus on leading clinical quality, operations, and program
development for the Neuro ICU at NGMC Gainesville. This
role is 80% clinical (direct patient care, procedures, rounding,
consults) and 20% leadership: guiding clinical standards, staffing
models, throughput, and performance improvement.

Practice Overview:
- Join a team of physicians, advanced practitioners and
well-trained support staff
- 24/7 coverage of our 18 bed Neuro ICU.
- Service Line supported by:
- Separate Neuro-hospitalists and APP program covering the neuro
step-down and medical units across two campuses.
- NGPG Neurology includes a team of 20 Outpatient Neurologists
and APPs
- Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level 1 Trauma
at our Gainesville campus and Primary Stroke
Center at both our Braselton and Barrow campuses
- Significant learning opportunities through structured
Neuroscience educational sessions, M&M, and GME.
- Growing program with opportunity to work with residents
and fellows
Key Leadership Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain clinical protocols, order sets, and care
pathways (SAH, LVO stroke, status epilepticus, TBI).
- Own unit-level performance metrics: mortality, ICU LOS,
ventilator days, CAUTI/CLABSI rates, EVD infection rates,
and unplanned returns to ICU.
- Improve throughput (ED ICU stepdown/home), capacity management,
and escalation/de escalation criteria.
- Collaborate with Stroke Program leadership on reperfusion
readiness, post tPA/post thrombectomy management, and stroke core
measures.
- Represent Neurocritical Care in hospital
committees (ICU Steering, Quality, Sepsis/Code Blue,
Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Ethics as applicable).
- Assist with recruitment and retention of physicians and APPs;
participate in budget planning and capital requests
Working together with Physicians like you:
- MD or DO; completion of an ACGME accredited residency program
in Neurology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine,
Anesthesiology, or Neurological Surgery.
- Board certification or board eligibility in
Neurocritical Care through an ABMS recognized pathway,
including:
- Successful completion of an ACGME accredited
Neurocritical Care fellowship with eligibility for the
ABPN administered Neurocritical Care subspecialty certification
examination, OR
- Current ABMS Neurocritical Care subspecialty
certification (ABPN administered) through Neurology
(ABPN), Internal Medicine (ABIM), Emergency Medicine (ABEM),
Anesthesiology (ABA), or Neurological Surgery (ABNS),
OR
- For legacy candidates only (through 2026):
prior certification via the practice/temporary pathway accepted by
the applicable ABMS member board.
- UCNS certification alone is not required;
however, prior UCNS accredited fellowship training or UCNS
certification may be considered in the context of overall
eligibility and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of post-fellowship clinical
experience in a dedicated Neurocritical Care or Neuro ICU
setting.
- Unrestricted Georgia medical license (or ability to obtain) and
eligibility for hospital privileges.
- Demonstrated expertise in neuro specific critical care,
including advanced ventilator management, multimodality
neuromonitoring, continuous EEG, invasive monitoring, and post
thrombectomy/SAH care.
- Prior leadership experience (e.g., unit lead,
service chief, associate or assistant medical director) strongly
preferred.
- Working knowledge of Comprehensive Stroke Center
standards, ICU quality metrics, accreditation readiness,
and performance improvement initiatives.
- As Neurocritical Care is now an ABMS recognized
subspecialty, candidates must be eligible for or already hold ABMS
Neurocritical Care subspecialty certification; fellowship based
eligibility will be required for candidates entering practice after
2026.
