America) The Pharmacy Department at NGOC has an exciting
opportunity for a Lead Pharmacy Technician! This position is
full-time/day shift. Job Summary: Must be proficient in all
responsibilities and duties of Pharmacy Technician.?Must be capable
of providing leadership to Technicians. Provide assistance to
Technician Supervisor. Must be able to provide supervision to
Technicians assigned to IV room (when applicable). Core
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Medication Distribution -
Patient Specific a.First Dose and PRN - must pull labels from
medication and/or IV printer, select correct medication, correct
strength, and correct form from shelves. Fill, label, and initial
medication bag and leave for a pharmacist to check, then deliver or
tube to the appropriate units. Remember to clearly identify
refrigerated items. b.Cart Fill- Must fill patient specific
medications in accordance with department procedure.
c.Transportation- cart fill, first dose, and missing doses will be
delivered to the appropriate units in the hospital, while
practicing appropriate procedure to ensure confidentiality for all
patients. (e.g.: covering patients labels, medication bags or any
other item containing patient information) d.Missing Doses- upon
request, must properly generate label, fill and have checked by a
pharmacist, then dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
e.Product Preparation- must properly prepare/compound ointments,
creams and oral solutions, etc IV Admixture a.Aseptic technique-
must view and understand aseptic technique video. Demonstrate
proper hand washing and proper use of IV Room attire (gown, gloves,
mask, shoe and hair covers) Understand the TJC, hospital and
departmental policies and procedures. Must complete an aseptic
technique check off to show compliance with USP 797t, conducted by
supervisor or approved IV Tech. Must be trained under direct
supervision and final approval by the pharmacist or supervisors.
b.Small volume- (IVPB) these items will be prepared upon demand or
with the IV batch using aseptic technique. c.Specialty solutions-
epidural, intrathecal, IVIG, Prolastin, sterile syringes and
chemotherapy will be made as required. d.Syringes- Neonatal
syringes (when applicable) will be made daily in the A.M. and given
a 24 hours expiration date. A pharmacist prior to preparing
syringes must check all admixtures. e.Large volume- (LVA)
Electrolytes, KCL and maintenance fluids will be made as needed or
with the IV batch. f.TPN- must be trained / approved to calibrate
and operate the total parenteral nutrition machine. (when
applicable) must identify correct additive to be used, a pharmacist
must check prior to injecting additives. g.TPN Equipment- (when
applicable) must clean, disassemble and reassemble all tubing.
Replace all additives and run all required reports. h.Room cleaning
and restocking- IV hood must be cleaned every shift and/or as
needed to maintain sterile work surface. IV room must be restocked
every shift or as needed. IV room must be clean atall times and
cleared of any cardboard boxes, etc. Always ensure that all
requirements and procedures of are met. (ADC) Automatic Dispensing
Cabinet (Pyxis) a.User- must be capable of accurately adding new
users to the PYXIS system. b.Product- must properly load cubies
with correct medications. After checked by a pharmacist, cubie
should be loaded into PYXIS. Monitor par levels, increase or
decrease as needed. c.Reports- must be able to generate needed
reports to fill, track, and identify/report all discrepancies.
d.Minor Maintenance- must trouble shoot minor problems; recover
failed cubies and/or drawers. e.Restock- must accurately fill
medication, fluids and stock outs as needed. f.Recall- must assist
the pharmacist and supply specialist in retrieving recall
medications. Miscellaneous Activities: a.Rotate through all work
areas of the pharmacy b.Prepackaging and bar-coding medications-
must accurately label all tablets, capsules, liquids, mouthwash and
oral syringes. (e.g. medication name, strength, NDC , Lot, and
expiration date.) c.Properly provide customer service with phone
calls and front window. d.Process all charges: late charges,
supplemental, OR charges, nuclear and exception report. e.Properly
sort and store employee prescriptions from the Apothecary.
f.Ordering supplies and obtaining PO 's using the HSS system.
g.Capable of generating orders, checking in orders, completing
invoices, processing returns using the wholesaler computer system,
and reconciling invoices with statements for accounts payable.
h.Coordinate training for new technicians and provide supervision
when needed. i.Provide assistance to Technician Supervisor with
specific areas of annual evaluations. j.Must be proficient in the
distribution and accountability of Controlled Substance. Area
Inspections: a.Code Cart- Must restock emergency medication when
cart is used and return to pharmacy. A pharmacist must check the
code cart before being sealed, code cart is returned to the unit or
if spare cart is kept in pharmacy, return to storage area. Code
Carts will be inspected quarterly for expired medications. b.Must
perform monthly unit and pharmacy inspections for expired/obsolete
medication. Also, ensure that assigned pharmacy area is clean and
free of dust. c.Must perform monthly out date tracking on
medications in the PYXIS cabinets. Performs other duties as
assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies,
standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED Required Minimum Experience: 1 year of
Hospital pharmacy experience 1 year of experience in specific areas
of the Pharmacy. 1 year of exposure and/or experience in high risk
areas (e.g. Specialty IV Admixture, Purchasing/Inventory Control).
Required Minimum Skills KSAs Proficiency Basic computer skills.
Good oral communication skills. Basic management skills. Good
"problem solving" skills Good interpersonal skills. Ability to lift
a minimum of 30 pounds. Ability to push a transportation cart of
approximately 100 pounds. Required Minimum License(s) and
Certification(s): CPHT - Cert Pharmacy Tech required upon hire PHT
